I enjoyed this excellent wine last night while we spent a lovely evening at home. In an attempt to give the bank account a rest, my husband and I planned a simple meal accompanied by a delicious and inexpensive wine.
The Meal: Penne topped with a spicy Italian sausage, spinach and tomato sauce, sprinkled with finely grated Parmigiano-Reggiano. This gratifying meal was both easy and economical to put together.
The Wine: 2008 Farnese ‘Casale Vecchio’ Montepulciano D’Abruzzo, this dry and full-bodied red from Italy sells for $9.85 at the LCBO. I found it to be both sweet and spicy with firm tannins. After an initial taste, I decided to decant this wine before enjoying it fully.
